Past the color mixup -- a blue bike left white, a red bike that's blue -- this is a sound albeit rigged demonstration of the do's and don't's of daily (and nighttime) bike-riding. Freddy's glad to get his blue birthday bike and Tommy complains about his red one so it's preordained that Freddy will follow the rules (to stop at STOP signs, signal, stay on the right, etc.) and Tommy will flout them. Poor red bike -- soon it's ""rusted and busted, broken and bent."" POOR TOMMY -- crutches and bandages and NO BIKE. But there's ""one almost new bike. . . and that is the blue bike."" Appended are twenty-one tips on being a model rider. . . if the smugness doesn't throw kids off.
