This has reference book on French philosophy, including sixteen exponents from , surely France's greatest philosopher, to Sartre- a man of today. On the way it takes in , Fontenelle, Moniosquireu, Voltaire, Diderot, Roussean, Condoreet, de , Bergson and a few others. The technique used is to give very brief biography of each of these thinkers, followed by lengthy and per excepts from their main works. French philosophy is less empirical than English, German, but it is always brilliant, often witty, and usually offers lively the editor says, if philosophy is the love and pursuit of wisdom and simply branch of knowledge, the French philosophers and their successors in the classical tradition and have taken all of human experience as their province their attempt to please and instruct. The editor's hope is that these numerous selections will to the reader's enjoyment as well as knowledge and the omnium gatherum here should fulfill that objective.
