KIRKUS REVIEW

Here's a book that will spellbind anyone to whom maps have the smallest appeal. For it is an encyclopedia of exploration, illustrated at each step of the way with a map showing the progress of world knowledge at that point, as coloring the knowledge and the theories of the time. The material is divided by geographical units, to a large extent, so it constantly cross sections historical chronology. However, once you are on to that, it is fun.
