THE PLYMOUTH THANKSGIVING

Sailing in to relieve the Dalgleish-Sewell First Thanksgiving is an equally handsome vehicle more fully provisioned with the events of the first year in America. Also in picture book format (in color and black-and -white), the text is set in short lines of less than sentence length; since the sentences are also short, this makes for easy reading at some sacrifice of stylistic fluency. The very addition of detail that adds historical value detracts from the simple legendary quality of the story for younger children. For them, The First Thanksgiving remains the first choice, but this distillation of Bradford's diary is likely to be the favorite of independent readers with a larger appetite.
