MR. PEACEABLE PAINTS by Leonard Weisgard

MR. PEACEABLE PAINTS

By

Publisher: Scribner

A story of colonial America, simply told and quite beautifully illustrated in the Weisgard manner, reflects again this author-artist's interest in early American art. Eagle's Landing could have been any east coast seaport, complete with its quiet houses and harbor and the picture-signs that denote the tradesmens' occupations. But a particular predicament is that of Mr. Lion, the innkeeper whose sign disappears just as a fleet of sailing ships comes in. But Mr. Peaceable, the signpainter, a happy man because he does what he wants and wants what he does, has a new one ready in time. A light story thread but one that does much to depict the life and feeling of the times.
