KIRKUS REVIEW

This one starts promisingly enough with a mysterious, cello-playing multimillionaire who persuades a reporter to spend a year investigating a future president's trip to China. It seems that an installation at Ulan Bator is in touch with an alien civilization called SCOP, and the nation that joins forces with SCOP will rule the world but lose its soul. This novel ventures into the territory of C. S. Lewis' space trilogy--a ponderously foolhardy excursion.
