PLEASE PASS THE GRASS!

Roger Duvoisin has had fun with these amusing pictures of the adventures grass affords. There's a child's sense of exhilaration in turning somersaults, standing on his head, rolling in the grass, going barefoot. There are all the things that happen, half hidden in the grass:- the mouse escapes; the rabbits have their young; the frog hides under a big leaf. There are picnics on the grassy banks of a stream. And at home, laundry is spread to dry- and cows find it the greatest of treats. The text is jingly with no pretense at being real poetry, but the play on words will invite the child to make up more on his own.
