A TREASURY OF THE WORLD'S FINEST FOLK SONG

Vienna was once perhaps the world's musical capital. The editor of this fine volume is a Viennese, and has made his selection from the folk songs of almost 40 nations. He has been a trailblazer in the use of folk music in musical education, and a lifetime of research has gone into this collection, -- ""infinite riches in a little room"". His choice has been determined not by popularity, but by basic worth as music, and he presents the songs in their soundest version, retaining the original form of the tunes, and including piano accompaniments. Translations have involved problems, which Mr. Willard Trask has admirably met. Regional and national grouping, with excellent introductory comments. A beautiful book which should make a real contribution to its field. Not a book intended to be accepted by a wide public but a book that should be a ""must"" in radio musical libraries, in singers' libraries, in music schools, and so on.
