That this small volume of poems expresses something of the modern spirit, there is no question; agony, searching, confusion, the inundation of the present by the past, the sense of vast future perspectives- are all part of it. But that these poems convey it well is another matter. Can one speak of confusion clearly? Perhaps not. But these are more indications of ideas and perceptions than fully realized poems. Some surer technique, some deeper feeling is needed to express what Yeats so well expressed in one line- ""things fall apart; the center cannot hold"". Perhaps this is a talent with growth possibilities, which at some time will command a wider interest.
