Two highly capable London newspapermen tell the story of a great and famous ship in a colorful, selective book of anecdotes and chronological history. They tell how the huge 81,000 ton-1,000 foot long liner was conceived and built, how she recaptured trans Atlantic records for England, how she served in the War, and what has happened to her since. The anecdotes however are the highlights. We learn how Clive Bell criticized her decor, how she cut the cruiser Curacao in two during the war, who was aboard her on her maiden voyage (it was the ""social register"" voyage), and what the Cunard Company plans to do with the Mary. Incidental intelligence, such as why she carries 2400 bottles of Scotch, what her menus are like, and what restrictions are imposed upon the crew, make interesting sidelights.
