HEROINE OF LONG POINT: Vol. 4

This is the fictionalized version of a true event. Abigail Becker, the wife of a trapper living on Long Point, rescued the crew of a trading schooner which had been wrecked in a hurricane on Lake Erie. Stout hearted and sturdy she may have been, but the story potential, then as now, is no greater than that of a feature news article or a magazine report. Shipboard life and hazards are well described but this information is obscured by, and secondary to, the lifelessly portrayed crew and rescuing family. The rescue itself is described without tension.
