KIRKUS REVIEW

This hoodoo-dunit takes place in Mississippi in the '30's so that old superstitions can be even more dangerous than prejudices and where a Negro girl, a ""good girl"" studying to be a nurse is found murdered and strangely savaged. Her brother mutters West Indian imprecations while a red velvet ribbon leads to a plantation first family and a victim of fits as well as spells.... A horror story within bounds of the possible and at times predictable but well enough done of its kind which is different.
