Ten nicely chosen stories, with emphasis on smooth reworkings of familiar ideas rather than Obit-style novelty. There are some very funny things here: Liz Hufford's happy planet of ""Imitia"" enthusiastically studying Earthside models; Stephen Robinett's nasty-tempered warrior computer; Hayford Peirce's discovery of the way to the stars in the interesting time-warp effects already achieved by the United States Post Office. In a darker vein, try Robert Hoskins' appealing story of a boy smothered in robot-controlled safety in a post-holocaust world, or Clifford Simak's flawlessly realized vignette of an old man trapped in the final isolation of a computerized retirement satellite.
