KING OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS: Kamehameha I

The author of Front Lines and Headlines (1959, p. 180, J-88) has dropped below the fascination level in this story of Hawaii's great king. All the facts seem to be here; the major problem is the unwieldy number of them; selectivity-- perhaps with emphasis placed on either the early or later years of the man's life-- would have resulted in a stronger, more effective presentation. From the time he was placed under the guardianship of Naole in 1758 until his death in 819, Kamehameha led an unusually active, exciting life. The excitement, however, is almost totally lost due to the poor organization.
