KIRKUS REVIEW

A pleasant atmospheric story about a boy and horse with considerable regional interest. Jockie was sure the mare he had raised would be a winning trotter, but it is not until after some heartbreaking losses by Diana, that Jockie discovers the trick that will restore her spirit to win. In between the races, however, there is the busy life on the Canadian island where Jockie lives with his grandparents- fishing, lobstering, a plowing contest, adventures with Harry the pet heron, storms and fairs. A sprightly story with lots of outdoor excitement.
