PAINTING AND PERSONALITY: A Study of Young Children

Exclusively for professionals in the nursery school field, for teachers, psychiatrists, is this study of young children's painting (two to five) which during this period is most directly self-expressive. This study is based on a formidable-endeavor of observation and research (five nursery schools were under observation); it reveals the importance of color as indicating the degrees of intensity in a child's life; line and form, as they express emotional control as well as physical; space usage and placement; the significance of a preference for easel painting. Finger painting, crayons and other color work are investigated as well. Forms and charts in the rear of volume one making evaluation of paintings possible. The illustrations reproduce the work of the children, and the second volume is devoted to brief case histories of the individual children studied, with reference to the illustrations shown. A very special field -- but in that field there is no other work of this kind.
