KIRKUS REVIEW

Twenty second in an excellent and durable series, this is more than an adequate study of France, and fills a recognizable niche. As with others in the series, the intent is not to present a current history, but to give a compact study of the land and people, the geography, the various regions, in terms and customs, topography, produce, climate, background, significance. At times Mrs. Bragdon seems to avoid mention of the effects and aftermath of war, perhaps because of an effort to keep her text timeless. But her style is easy, her approach sober but appreciative.
