Young Jay Evans, who has to put up with being the middle child, derives a special satisfaction from his family's trip to Lapland when he saves a white reindeer. The Evans' learn a great deal about the special characteristics of the country in a convincing encounter with a friendly Lapp family. And Jay's adventure helps him to mature a little and to have a very special conception of the land. The story is slight but the members of the two families are believable enough.
