The further adventures of the characters introduced in Myrtle Albertina's Secret come as a let-down. At the close of the first book, Harvey Stevens was cleared of criminal charges in a California mining town of the 1890's and Myrtle Albertina had found a wonderful friend in Tuley, his son. Now Mr. Stevens is married to Aunt Eva, but uninformed public opinion still weighs heavily against him as an aftermath of his imprisonment. For a while it seems that Aunt Eva, Uncle Harvey and Tuley will move away -- but Myrtle Albertina tries many ways to keep them in town. She searches for gold nuggets to no avail hoping to solve the economic problems of the unemployed photographer. When that fails she goes door-to-door, filling his appointment book with prospects. Banal.
