The catharis of conversation to prevent and relieve childhood anxieties and problems, this is an extenuation and demonstration of Dorothy Baruch's New Ways in Discipline (or the think-before-you-speak, speak-before-you-spank school of handling). Common emotions, (fears, jealousy, the oedipus conflict, anger, etc.) and some common concerns (death, sexuality, size, space and distance, etc.) are explained and talked out at three phases of development:- infancy, three to seven, and seven to twelve. The validity of verbalization as an aid to understanding and self-understanding is of course not new- but for those mothers who need an explicit aid such as this for close cooperation with their children- this may be helpful. The little dialogues (Whose darling little girl are you? Whose own little girl are you? Well, you are my darling little Betty-girl. What does my baby want Mommy to give her?) may prove difficult for the more sensitive parent.
