Publisher: Doubleday, Doran

Exerted emotionalism for a dual story of marriage, before and after, which makes for reading of a distinctly womanly nature. Half concerns Augusta, now fifty, who had been left by her husband John some years ago when he could no longer stomach family responsibilities and restrictions. In retrospect,-and Augusta is not the girl to hold anything back,-the years of marriage, loneliness but understanding are retraced. The second half concerns Lynn who becomes pregnant by Augusta's son, Phil, but thinks herself in love with someone else. Augusta helps to guide her to the realization that Phil is the one she wants most. And there is compensation for Augusta when John returns repentant. If you like them ripe.
