SHETLAND PONIES

The author/photographer who did Rabbits in the Meadow (1963, p. 181 (J-69) followed the course of two Shetland ponies from their springtime birth to their first winter. Miss Hess has the faculty of being in the right place at the right time to nap her pictures, catching her appealing subjects in never to be repeated attitudes. Big black and white photographs are part of every page and the text explains the development of Blaze and Patch from their first shaky, mother-bound days, through their frisky summer to the edge of winter. The short and smooth text should present no difficulties to the youngest horse fanciers in this age group.
