RABBITS IN THE MEADOW

The photography is superb and the information comes from observation so close that it must have approached a 24 hour a day vigil in this start-of-life, way-of-life cycle for a wild rabbit and her three babies. (Because they are hard to observe, little has been done on their habits.) From the moment when the mother started nestling a form into the meadow grass and lining it with her own down, the author began snapping pictures of the family's daily life-- first as she protects them in their defenselessness from daylight enemies and the dangers of night (and they don't always make it easy). At the end of sixteen days, they are on their own for a frolicking summer. The author/photographer brings them down to the edge of winter, when their companionship ends and their toughest struggle with nature is about to begin.
