TALE WITHOUT END

There is unconscious charm in this simple journal of a young German girl, starting out to explore life, first in the company of four youths, fellow students in the study of socialism, later -- when she finds her emotions getting unduly tangled -- alone. First the road to Paris -- then Paris itself, where their poverty makes them take turn and turn about seeing the sights -- then, after leaving the boys, Brittany, Lyons, the wine district of the south, Marseilles, seeing how the simple folk live, sharing their poverty and privations. There is a certain indefinable humor --and a certain grimness, and the book impresses itself unexpectedly on the reader's imagination. It wont be an easy book to sell. Have a member of your staff read it, and then pick certain of your customers as it wont appeal to a very wide market.
