ALL ABOUT NIAGARA FALLS: Fascinating Facts, Dramatic Discoveries

Pub Date: April 18th, 1989
Publisher: Morrow

A useful but undistinguished potpourri of information about the famous N.Y. State landmark. Beginning with ""Twenty Great Things to Do at Niagara Falls"" (including collecting license-plate origins and making an anagram of the name), Granfield goes on to discuss the history of the Falls since the explorers; stunts and money-making activities; legends, folklore, and trivia. Harder information is provided in chapters on the Falls' geology and its role in providing power for the Northeast. Endlessly chipper, with the material organized in a continuing brief narrative surrounded by related sound bites of information that enliven the text but make the format confusing and the book difficult to read in sequence; cartoon-style illustrations and muddily reproduced photos do little to brighten the unattractive format. Still, a compendium of information that will be valuable for school assignments and possibly enjoyed for browsing. Index.
