EASY PEASY!

A kitten is awakened by the delicious aroma of fish, and follows its source to a high kitchen cupboard. She wonders how to get at it. ``It's easy peasy!'' she exclaims, jumping on a nearby bucket. She uses a series of objects to ascend, with each leap accompanied by the same phrase, and leaves a trail of destruction behind her. Reaching her goal, she drops the fish, which is eaten by the dog. A mouse that has come along with her scolds her for her greed, which may not make sense to children—Kitty never exhibited any greed, just ingenuity. Two children help her down in the last, wordless, picture. The pictures are stylish watercolors with the objects and animals rendered in large blocks of color that resemble cut paper. The book is attractive, though not substantial: Kitty's logic and the progression of events are suited to the intended audience, but children may not want to sit through the mild episode more than once.
