HOW TO BEAT FATIGUE by Linda Pembrook

HOW TO BEAT FATIGUE

Who's not tired? Well over 50 percent of patients seeing family physicians report chronic fatigue stemming from boredom, anxiety, stress, depression and loneliness along with their other medical complaints. Linda Pembrook takes the long view of 20th century ennui and she's really very optimistic and convincing that with a little self-examination--of mental attitudes and circadian rhythms, goals, schedules, exercise, diet, drug intake, etc.--you can generate almost limitless energy. She's omitted nothing in this sensible whole-person manual--there are even specific recommendations of labs where insomniacs can be treated. No miracles are promised, and she turns a jaundiced eye on the fads--isometrics, yoga, vitamins or Geritol. Her survey of psychogenic disease and emotional illness includes Hans Selye on stress, Friedman and Rosenman on Type A and Type B behavior, Matina Homer on ""fear of success,"" Erich Fromm on aggression. There's hard-nosed, good advice here from a wealth of reliable medical sources. Recommended.
