This version of the Noah’s Ark story creatively expands the basic structure, seeking to explain how Noah discovered the process of making wool felt from his sheep. (The close quarters, rocking of the boat and the humid environment caused the sheep’s wool to turn to felt.) Noah, who is credited with the discovery of several important tools as well as directing the building of the Ark, uses this process to create felt clothing for his family to wear after the Ark returns to dry land. Illustrations in mixed-media using pencil, gouache, acrylics and collage show Noah and the animals through the windows of the Ark, surrounded by soft-focus turquoise seas. Notes from the author include information about the history of felt as well as recommended titles on felt-making. (Picture book. 4-8)
