The ABC's of puppy care have no relation to the order or incidence of letters in the alphabet, which makes this array of common sense tips somewhat fortuitous and illogical; alphabet books are passe to kids who are ready to care for a dog, which makes the format questionable altogether. Miss. Weil's drawings are more appealing than precise and a few are simply silly (Fido in a four-poster, in an apron, hitched to a wagon); so are the X, Y, Z names (Xerox, Yummy, Zigzag). The air of encouraging consideration and consistency among young children is misplaced among the letters, lost in some of the anthropomorphic illustrations.
