A doctor's thesis which makes a definite contribution to our understanding of the interplay of religious and economic forces in North Carolina's Gaston County. The rise of industry in the 1880's, the proportionate rise of churches, as the churchmen backed the mill owners, and the mill owners in turn subsidized the churches. The classes of population, sects, denominations, statistically analyzed. The lack of awareness of social economic problems on the side of the church was evidenced in the part they played with the capitalists in downing the Communist-led strike of 1929, known as the Loray strike. Very specialized in market.
