KIRKUS REVIEW

Good adventure, in a clever and well-integrated combination of history and fiction, with Davy Crockett, Santa Anna, and Sam Houston as historical characters who mingle with the fictional. It's the story of Dain Galway who is attacked by a mysterious enemy and flees, with a girl -- Cleo, down into Texas. There, at the instigation of Davy Crockett, he joins the Texans in their fight against Santa Anna. They take part in many of the important battles of the war, barely escaping with their lives untill finally Cleo is killed. Dain is able to revenge himself against his enemies and eventually marries another, the daughter of a Mexican colonel. Colorful, romantic fiction in the old style, with good historical background.
