A talking approach to psychoanalysis, in question and answer form, between a psychiatrist and two men and two women, of assorted backgrounds but sharing many doubts. The authors give fuller explanations to their everyday questions; mental illnesses and various therapies are defined; there is a short history of this relatively new science; factors in choosing an analyst are considered; so are various disorders and deviations as well as the techniques through which the analytic process achieves its remedial or curative ends... At best this book is safe if simplistic and it assumes that the reader's acquaintance with the couch is limited to its uses as a living room accessory.
