KATIE AND HER CAMERA

A good career-romance (in contrast to the Williams book reported below) takes basically sensible and imaginative Katie through a set of experiences that confirm her values of creative work with a high standard and un-glossed human relations. In her last terms at the University in Minneapolis, Katie takes a part time job as factotum for a well known photographer, Rolfe Esperson. Absorbed in his work and responsive only to the inner cores of the persons around him, Esperson senses Katie's seriousness, wisely yet humorously encourages it and proves a natural instrument in her association with Paul Sillers, a newsman with whom Esperson works. For all three it is a rich, happy association. Katie has a stroke of luck with Life magazine with the acceptance of a picture story and then she moves on to an out of town newspaper Job. Though temporarily set back by a misunderstanding over an important narcotics story, Katie's and Paul's love deepens to where they realize a fine future together-and if their story is naive, without real problems or analysis, it makes the right kind of introduction to worthwhile people.
