HOUSEBOAT GIRL

Another in the excellent regional series that is introducing young America to the factual data of ways of living in different parts of the country. This story spans a far reach of the Mississippi valley- from Paducah to Memphis, as it is familiar to the Fosters, a houseboat family. The pattern of the story, with its day by day details, give this a somewhat different flavor, but a more or less predictable development. To nine-year-old Patsy, the life was not as satisfactory as an established home -- but they went through adventures and misadventures before the river floated them high and dry on a hilltop. If the Fosters leave something to be desired as people one would want as intimates, the story shares a philosophy of life that is worthwhile. Not perhaps a peak in the series, but a welcome addition.
