PROJECT BOY

The first of these two latest additions to Lois Lenski's series is a very warm and very human story of a small boy's life in a veteran's housing project. Teddy and his parents and baby sister live in two rooms. The family have their drawbacks- Teddy's father lost an eye in the war, his mother must squabble with neighbors over the community washing machine, Teddy is often bullied by older boys. Happily though, as in life, there are bright notes to all the sour ones and Miss Lenski's fine sense of reality always comes to the fore. She has done her own drawings for the book.
