Mr. Small has been variously a pilot, a fireman, an engineer and captain of a sailboat. Now he is a cowboy, and this is the first small boy cowboy book that has just the right amount of text information and pictures that four and five year olds care for. He is shown doing the things a cowboy does, -- saddling his horse Cactus, riding the range, cooking his supper outdoors, rounding up cattle, and later- playing his banjo and singing songs made familiar to children through records. Equipment is identifiable in the end papers, and the pictures have a direct simplicity that has realistic appeal. Sturdy cloth binding gives this a chance for affectionate rereading.
