THE KIDS IN THE KITCHEN COOKBOOK

Miss Levine encourages the young not to dabble but to produce, and this collection of recipes is of adult caliber in process, if not in treatment. Graduated according to difficulty, the recipes are child-oriented in substance--no delicate spices for example. One can, of course, fuss about Miss Levine's graded categories (artichoke handling, with its spiny needles, is not for beginners) and using a sharp knife on tomatoes has left many eight-fingered young cooks). However, with supervision, these recipes are excellent for children who tend to hate the bloppy, bland foods of most child-oriented cookbooks.
