KIRKUS REVIEW

This story of the Wright brothers is a fair initial biography of their aeronautical success as well as revealing of the part their sister Katherine played in their ambitions and a close family affection which lasted through their lives. Early trials with a homemade helicopter, youth in Dayton where the townsfolk considered the more extensive experimentations quite queer, the encouragement of Katherine who always backed Orville and Wilbur (and was always ready with her sewing machine for making body fabric )- these are warmly described incidents. Later when Katherine became a Latin teacher and when Will and Orv achieved their dreams at Kitty Hawk, their friendship remained staunch and is carried through here to the first tours of success in which Katherine participated too. A family story with enough of frills and engineering to please both interests.
