MBOKA: A Congo Memoir

There's some entertainment here for those with a taste for soap opera against exotic backdrops in this tale of a doctor's wife who follows her husband to the Belgian Congo and makes friends with the natives bemuse the Europeans in the neighborhood are such bad company. This warmhearted young lady gives sweets to the local children, foils a lecherous chief's plan to steal the prettiest girl in the village away from her fiance (unfortunately ruining the girl's reputation and almost getting the fiance killed in the process), adopts a chimpanzee and deplores man's inhumanity to man. Anyone who likes animals and children can't be all good.
