Mrs. Rhine is the wife of Dr. J.B. Rhine and much of the material on which this book is based is drawn from the now considerable backlog of findings from his parapsychological Laboratory at Dake University. While extrasensory experiences are the most difficult to substantiate scientifically, one can assume that most of these incidents, within the sometimes indistinct categories of telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition, have been presented in good faith and are beyond a reasonable doubt. Mrs. rhine distinguishes between the forms of experience (realistic; unrealistic; hallucinatory; intuitive); she presents dreams come true (the most frequently discounted) and communiques which span space and time; she has more difficulty in making any precise observations on the sex, age or temperamental characteristics which may determine the predisposition toward extrasensory experience.... By so means as insistently scientific as Gardener Murphy's Challenge of Psychical Research, she also uses personal material rather than the professional evidence of Rosalind Boywood's Beyond the Beach of Sense (both books appeared earlier this year). Since so many of the illustrations here involve premonitions of death, danger of disaster -- moments of crists, they combine to provide a casebook which should assure human interest and skepticism.
