Attendant upon the success of Lord Moran's study of Churchill comes the present republication of his study of ""how courage is born and how it is sustained in a modern army of a free people,"" drawn from his experiences in the trenches in France from Autumn 1914 to Spring of 1917. Lord Moran considers it ""but a step"" from this analysis (first published in 1944 twenty-five years after the fact) to his book on Sir Winston, in which he set out ""to describe the effect of strain on a single individual"" from his diary record of a relationship spanning a quarter of a century. Referential treatment is indicated.
