A folk-type tale with home-truth humor, about worrywart Mrs. Brubeck, who is sure that trouble is lying in wait for her little granddaughter. After wearing herself out anticipating trouble at every turn, Mrs. Brubeck spends the evening looking for trouble in all the nooks and crannies of her plain country house. She finds ""him"" (trouble) in her own bed, just as she's about to retire, exhausted--though Sewall makes clear to readers that it's Mrs. Brubeck's own shadow that she takes for trouble. Segal pokes well-grounded fun at her character in Mrs. Brubeck's own plain country cadences, which Sewall picks up in some film-like action sequences that perk up the single-figure performance.
