EVERYDAY LIFE IN COLONIAL AMERICA

The colonists had to have shelter, raise what they consumed, or work to barter for it, protect themselves with an armed force, and they prayed and they played. Mr. Wright, the Director of The Folger Shakespeare Library, has organized his book along these lines and kept his discussion to the conditions faced and the positions achieved by the average man in the colonies. The information on labor and the training for the trades is especially good and so is the discussion of religion. The differing attitudes and customs of the various regions of colonial America are lucidly presented.
