THE MEANING OF THE MONASTIC LIFE by Louis Bouyer

THE MEANING OF THE MONASTIC LIFE

By

Publisher: Kenedy

The author, a French Oratorian, who is well known for his devotional writing, has written this interpretation of the monastic life at the request of a community of monks. Naturally, therefore, the book will be of primary interest to members of monastic orders as it forth clearly the philosophy which should activate their self-sacrificial life and lend meaning to it. However, other Catholics, seeking the deeper meanings of their faith will find this a helpful book. The first part of the book consists of a theological interpretation of the search for perfection. There follows a discussion of the practicalities of detachment, prayer, penance and work. A rather difficult book to read.
