In the Meridian Documents of American History series, the present volumes aim to provide perspectives for the assessment of American constitutional development, to illustrate how concrete problems of American society have been dealt with within the framework of constitutional law and solved ""usually through the mechanism of adjudication by the Supreme Court."" As a corollary, it considers how the Supreme Court actually operates. The contents are presented by issue rather than chronology, and reach from the adoption of the Constitution to amending it; take up the distribution of national and state power, civil rights, etc. A useful compendium.
