KIRKUS REVIEW

1570 is the date for The China That Was, when Father Ricci, a Jesuit, arrived there. His journal provides fascinating facts about our allies, facts that help us to understand and appreciate them better. Little things like tea drinking, writing and traveling; big things such as family ties, faith and customs that have influenced their lives for thousands of years. It is fantastic and fabulous, which makes it good reading, but it is authentic and backed by Jesuit scholarship.
