He belongs with Auden and Spender and Isherwood, the leaders of the modernistic school who manage to mystify most of us most of the time. This less obscure than some. The general tenor is left-wing, topical, dealing with the chaos and decadence of today. Ironic undercurrent. Includes long poems, eclogues, monologues, dialogues, some shorter poems variously rhymed and metered. Touch of the smart alecky, as in Letters From Iceland (which he did with Auden). Market obvious.
