PEST CONTROL IN THE HOME GARDEN

True to the trend of the moment, this is a ""plant doctor"" angle for the vegetable garden -- fruits and small fruits -- not for the flower garden. There's an enormous amount of useful information here, from the thoroughgoing presentation of kinds of ""eets"" and methods -- in theory -- of controlling them, through discussion of equipment, its use and care, and the various poisons, -- sprays and powders and so on. Then the author systematically takes different kinds of fruit trees, the different types of problems (cankers, rot, leaf spot, and various worm and insect pests), and the successive sprays to be applied -- what and when and why. Next the same approach to small fruits. And then to vegetables. As always --with books in this field -- I get weighed down with an awareness of my own inadequacies and casualness. But for the serious gardener, who does his own work systematically, undoubtedly here is the answer to his prayer for help, in practical form. I have not seen the illustrations, of which there are some 111, but the recognition value for identifying pests' symptoms, should be incalcuable.
