Exciting, noisy and playful pictures as Mike conducts a living room tour on his own locomotive, all the way to Boston and points hither and yon. Michael's father and sister are the unperturbed passengers who see Mike shift from conductor to brakeman, to engineer, to candy-butcher, to all possible characters on a train. The verses (also by the illustrator-author) are literal, the pictures are gay and appealing and not as sophisticated as some of Slobodkin's work. Good on all counts.
