KIRKUS REVIEW

A modern and very solid description of the major basic principles and laws governing the nature of chemical change and structure, extraordinarily well-integrated and organized for reading about and teaching fundamentals. Topics such as the gas laws, absolute zero, atomic theory, elements, compounds, mixtures, the periodic table, the concept of entropy, ions, acids, bases, and the electron flow in metals, as well as some organic chemistry are well-delineated and explained in clear non technical language. Based on a course given for several years at the New School For Social Research in New York, this is an excellent, serious introduction that can be useful to a wide variety of superior students and thoughtful laymen.
